CAT Telecom Chooses LogRhythm for Security Project Support

Boulder, Jan 24, 2011 LogRhythm, the company that makes log data useful, today announced that CAT Telecom, Thailand’s state-owned telecommunications provider, has selected its log management technology as part of the ongoing infrastructure development comprising an Intrusion Detection System (IDS)/Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) project. The project was supported by LogRhythm’s business partner in Asia, FDS Networks. CAT, the owner of Thailand’s international telecommunications infrastructure including its international gateways, satellite and submarine cable networks connections, provides its customers with a variety of services including leased lines, Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and Gigabit Ethernet. As such a pivotal part of Thailand’s communications infrastructure, it is of the utmost importance that CAT can detect and respond to security breaches as soon as they occur. The IDS/IPS project is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to ensure the security of its IT infrastructure but presented new challenges when it came to processing and storing log data.

CAT’s internal policy dictates that all raw logs must be securely stored for at least 60 days,” said Surapong Jindawutikul, Country Manager at FDS Networks. “Unfortunately most IDS/IPS devices are unable to store logs for long periods of time. The functionality and interoperability of LogRhythm’s solution allows us to overcome this problem and also enables us to provide CAT with a variety of additional benefits. These include the ability to collect and present raw log data alongside normalised data via a “single pane of glass”, bundled compliance reporting for regulations including PCI DSS, Sarbanes Oxley etc, and the capability to upgrade to High-Availability (HA) in the future. In addition, LogRhythm is able to work alongside a comprehensive list of devices and systems, ensuring log collection and analysis is not impeded by compatibility issues.”

David Cheng, General Manager for Asia Pacific Region, LogRhythm, said “We are delighted that our first customer in the Thai market is a company as established and successful as CAT Telecom. LogRhythm’s solution is ideally suited to complement CAT’s IDS/IPS project as our built in File Integrity Monitoring (FIM) and data loss defender protect against both internal and external threats. In addition to improving security, LogRhythm’s advanced log management solution will also provide CAT with a greater insight into what is happening across its IT infrastructure, enabling the effective optimisation of IT operations.
