Phoenix Suns Select LogRhythm To Go On Offense Against Security Threats, IT Downtime, And Manual Audits

LogRhythm Log and Event Management System Slams the Competition with Comprehensive Data Collection, Ease of Operation, and Fast Deployment

November 3, 2008 – LogRhythm, the company that makes log data useful, today announced that the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Phoenix Suns have selected LogRhythm to proactively address security threats, prevent IT downtime, and automate manual, time consuming IT audits.

The Phoenix Suns employ a small IT staff to manage their 35 servers, network, and applications. The organization required a solution that could collect, centralize, analyze, and report on all the logs generated by its Microsoft Windows servers, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange e-mail system, and network firewalls. With limited resources, the Phoenix Suns IT staff also needed a system that could identify and issue alerts on security threats and operational problems so team members could pro-actively address issues to avoid breaches and downtime. Finally, the Phoenix Suns wanted to automate IT audit information gathering, analysis and reporting in order to implement best practices and reduce the time and cost associated with its current manual processes.

“With the tight budgets this year, we considered a short list of potential vendors and quickly honed in on LogRhythm,” said William K. Bolt, Vice President of Information Technology of the Phoenix Suns. “LogRhythm met all of our requirements for server, network device and application log management and reporting, and really stood out with its ability analyze data and generate real time alerts for security and network issues. However, the clincher was LogRhythm’s ease of operation. My staff was so impressed they said ‘this is it, we don’t need to look any further’.” LogRhythm Automates IT Optimization, Security, and Audit The key driver for the Phoenix Suns’ decision to purchase a log and event management system was to automate a cumbersome, time consuming manual process for gathering and reviewing the data needed to perform its monthly internal IT audit. This process took one person two full days each month. In addition, the Phoenix Suns wanted to implement a solution that would serve as the foundation for managing security and IT operations in a proactive rather than reactive manner. After evaluating LogRhythm alongside competing products, the Phoenix Suns immediately recognized the benefits of integrating log and event management for early identification of potential issues such as active directory access violations, disk space warnings, Exchange alerts, etc. to prevent downtime or service outages. LogRhythm enables the Phoenix Suns to accomplish these tasks and more without expanding their IT staff.

“The Phoenix Suns struggled with manual processes and limited resources for handling IT audits as well as managing their day-to-day IT operations. In this tough economy, they were looking for a solution that would free up IT resources and enable the IT team to take an offensive approach toward IT security and event management,” said Andy Grolnick, President and CEO of LogRhythm. “LogRhythm combines an easy to use interface with centralized management to streamline audit reporting. It also adds the real time visibility into system and network activity needed to proactively respond to security threats and short-circuit operational issues that can lead to downtime.”
