This quarter’s Employee Spotlight series showcases Susan Buck, Senior Vice President of Engineering at LogRhythm. Here is Ms. Buck’s story, edited, and condensed from a recent interview.

What is your role at LogRhythm?

I am the Senior Vice President of Engineering here at LogRhythm. In this role I am responsible for engineering the LogRhythm NextGen SIEM platform. This includes the architecture, the software engineering, quality assurance, user experience, and all the operational aspects.

How long have you worked at LogRhythm?

Beginning of March 2019

What did you do before LogRhythm? What was your previous work experience?

I have more than 30 years of commercial enterprise software development experience with a broad background in financial analytics, healthcare, and insurance. I began my career as a software engineer and progressed into executive leadership.

Most recently, I was the Vice President of Product Development at Vertafore. I was with the company for six years and built out the company’s next-generation product line. In 2017, I moved to Denver to oversee and build the engineering organization at the company’s new headquarters.

Before my time at Vertafore, I was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Rivet Software. There I was responsible for product development, IT, operations, and services.

Why did you decide to come work for LogRhythm?

What really excited me about LogRhythm was the culture and the people. Right away I saw that the employees were authentic, intelligent, and passionate about their jobs and helping customers. I wanted to surround myself with highly motivated people. Plus, helping to grow the careers of my employees’ is important to me and I felt there was a lot of potential.

Secondly, I saw tremendous opportunity in the LogRhythm product and in the SIEM and broader security market. Each brought their own set of welcome challenges that I wanted to pursue. I have a passion for growing and building both the organization and the business, ultimately LogRhythm seemed like a good place to do that.

What is your educational background?

I have two degrees, both from the Australian National University. The first is a Bachelor of Science with majors in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Psychology. While the second is a Bachelor of Economics with majors in Economics and Statistics.

What do you do for fun/what are your hobbies?

I love to travel and explore different cultures!

Where has been your favorite place to travel?

This year I went to Finland north of the arctic circle to see the northern lights. I really enjoyed the people and the culture. The scenery was breathtaking.

What is your life philosophy or “motto”?

I believe the small things that you do in life can have a great impact on people. That is how I have brought my daughter up and how I live my life personally and at work.
